Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill took centre stage at the 2024 HealthTechX Summit.

At the recent HealthTechX Summit, Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill, Olympic Champion and founder of the women’s hormonal health platform Jennis, took centre stage to share her transformative journey from elite athlete to FemTech founder. Combining her personal experiences with her passion for sport and learnings of hormonal health, Jessica delved into the motivations behind her venture and the challenges she seeks to address.

Jessica’s journey with Jennis began with a desire to continue competing after becoming a mother. Drawing from her own experiences during pregnancy and postnatal recovery, she recognized the lack of support for women to understand their bodies’ hormonal changes. This realization fuelled her mission to create a platform that empowers women to gain insights into their hormonal health beyond just fertility.

Sharing her personal reflections, the gold medallist emphasized that her passion for sport and the transformative journey with her son played pivotal roles in sparking her interest in the HealthTech arena. As an athlete, she was intimately familiar with her body, but motherhood introduced her to a new dimension of understanding and appreciating its complexities.

Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill emphasized the need to educate women about all hormonal changes they may experience throughout their lives.

Using data-driven approaches, Jennis aims to bridge the gap between women’s awareness of their bodies and a deeper understanding of their hormonal cycles. Jessica noted the challenges of gathering data in this area but emphasized the importance of listening to women’s experiences and feedback to tailor the platform effectively.

In terms of the broader significance of hormonal health beyond fertility, Jessica underlined the value of educating women about the various hormonal changes they experience throughout their lives, including the impact of exercise and lifestyle choices. Fundamentally, Jennis aims to empower women with the knowledge and tools to proactively manage their hormonal health.

Reflecting on her transition from elite athlete to business owner, the Olympic champion shared lessons learned from her sporting career, including the importance of teamwork and resilience. She emphasized the value of pushing oneself out of comfort zones and embracing failure as essential elements of growth, both in sport and in business.

Transitioning from an elite athlete to a business leader, Jessica brought valuable lessons from the world of sports to her entrepreneurial journey.

Jessica also highlighted the neglect of women’s health in elite sports and the broader healthcare landscape. With less research and funding dedicated to women’s health, she is committed to driving change and raising awareness about the unique needs of women. Looking ahead, Jessica and her team are focused on reaching as many women as possible, particularly in the direct-to-consumer space. They aim to make the platform accessible and personalized, catering to the needs of everyday women while also bringing attention to women’s health at the elite level.

In essence, Dame Jessica’s journey epitomizes the intersection of passion, perseverance, and purpose. Through Jennis, she is is driving meaningful impact in the realm of healthtech, paving the way for a future where women can truly understand, embrace, and optimize their hormonal health.
